Silverstone 9/10th October Race

  Not the result we planned........

It felt very peculiar driving the Porsche again after our success with the Lister. The Roock car is a fabulous piece of equipment but the driving style is completely different and it requires far more driver intervention..!! I also hadn't driven anything since the Summerfest in August so my first few laps were exploratory.....

Qualifying on Saturday left us a in very lowly 6th place some considerable way from the pole setting NCK Marcos with some work to do in the race if we were going to achieve a podium position. Whilst the Championship was in the bag we still wanted to give a good performance and give something to the crew who had worked so hard to rebuild the car after Charlie had "restyled" it at Spa.

Grid time and I didn't really like the view from this far back. I had our Championship-winning Lister ahead of me and the yellow one that we triumphed at Snetterton in on my right. Hhhmmmmm......I knew the first lap was going to be important if I was going to stay with the main group and I wanted to avoid being boxed.

As the lights changed I was a fraction slow in applying the power but pulled aside the black Lister going into Copse.I eased away under power but William Hewland in the yellow Storm however was taking no prisoners into Becketts and moved ahead. Mayhem followed as cars dived everywhere to avoid a coming together between the Mclaren and one of the Porsche GT1's.

I went the wrong way and was unable to get the power down quickly enough at Island. I dropped away from the main pack of  four into the clutches of one the PK 911's. I had no idea who was driving at the time but we had a great dice for the next 10 laps - I found out afterwards it was Marcus Fothergill and we agreed that we had spent too much time fighting each other which allowed the main pack to disappear!! We enjoyed ourselves though.

I handed the car over to Rob in 5th place. I explained over the radio that the car was struggling through the fast corners and under brakes and Rob quickly echoed my sentiments....It wasn't going to be our day but we've had our fair share of good days this year! I think the final straw came when the ignition cut on the last lap!

We both then had the honour of picking up The Woolfe Trophy for managing to win the GT2 title.....a truly magnificent  (and extremely heavy!) trophy.
