Knockhill Race 12th May

At least it wasn't raining this year as we approached the circuit for raceday. In fact we had been graced with beautiful weather for the whole of our three day excursion to bonnie Scotland. Carrying our 80kgs of success ballast and learning that there were in fact two Saleens running against us for this round did not do much to improve our hopes of winning........

Still we gave it our best shot in qualifying but it was only good enough for third, the front row being the two Saleens and I was joined on the second row by the Speed 12. Into the first corner the TVR scythed across my bow forcing me to brake sharply and I settled into 4th. The superiority of the Saleens was evident from the off however and they started to ease away whilst I waited for my tyres to come up to temperature.

I held a respectable gap to the TVR and was posting reasonable times as we came across the first of the backmarkers. Approaching the chicane I overestimated how slow one particular 911 was and had to alter my line quickly. This resulted in the backend coming around and a minor grass moment. I recovered and sped after the train again but was conscious that we had lost valuable seconds.

I dived into the pits for our stop in 5th place with the front 2 cars in particular well down the road. We needed a good stop but we didn't get one. The car stalled and we lost another valuable 6 seconds. Despite a valiant drive by my partner we would only salvage one place and missed out on a podium slot.

Maybe Croft in two weeks time will be a closer race......
