Donington has always been one of my favourite tracks but I do
prefer it in the dry...I knew weather was going to play a part in the weekend and as I
headed out to the circuit on Saturday morning I saw a blanket of mist on the horizon.
Mmmmmmm....."I wonder where that could be..?" Sure enough the track was
saturated although the local weather forecast promised blue skies in the afternoon. I
wasn't convinced but braced myself for my first experience of the Lister Storm in the wet.
Maybe we should have gone out in the Thursday wet session....
....just right for the rain....
I had no intention of finding the limit of the car in the wet and
Rob felt the same. We finished the first session third in class with some work to do. Some
adjustments were made to try and induce more turn-in and we tried again in the final
session. Rob managed to pip Tommy in the Marcos for pole and an extra bar change at the
end meant I only had one flying lap to try and improve on my earlier time which I did.
Wets were needed!!
I have to hand it to the weather boys though - blue skies there
weren't, but it did dry out (for the first race at least!) We lined up on the grid and I
did my usual check of first driver opposition. I usually have a good race against Andy in
the Marcos and that Viper right behind with Monsieur Cunningham could always be a problem.

Now normally I'm pretty good at the start but I made a hash of
this one and dropped to fifth at Redgate. The Marcos unfortunately found the gravel and I
was up to fourth but annoyed!! I'd been quicker in testing than everyone else so I went
for it and carved my way back through passing the Mclaren, the PK Porsche and then the
Beaverbrook machine.

I particularly enjoyed the scrap with Martin Stretton in the 911
and we were both reeling in the Viper. They called me in at about half way and we made
another good pitstop.

Rob went out in third place but with the slower drivers still to
go in both the Porsche and Viper we were comfortable. In fact Rob complained he had
nothing to do ......I'll make up for that tomorrow......
Another great result for Lister as Julian and Jamie did the
business in the GT1 car aswell. Let's see what tomorrow brings!
How do we fit in the same car??
