Having missed the
official test day we had to rely on last year's data for the ratios and
set up of the car. We were not on our own though as most of the other
leading runners were also absent from the test. It was therefore straight
into free practice where we came out third fastest but the balance of the
car felt very good. We made a few more minor adjustments before qualifying
and watched the sky for any changes in the weather.
Mike took to track and
put us p1 initially before the TVR showed its potential. It had been very
strong here last year and had proved how strong it was over the bumps of
Combe. We had dropped to second when I went out to qualify. Mike was up
for a run at the end of the session and a great effort put us back on pole
again.

It was extremely busy
entering the circuit again for race day but at least it was clement as we
rolled out onto the grid. I lost first on the drag down to Quarry corner
and caught sight of a very out of control Saleen spinning behind me and
then next to me and then in front of me!!! I lifted to stay out of trouble
and found myself in third. I followed the two in front for the next lap
before a huge accident involving a Porsche and a Saleen brought the
Safety Car out. It was a serious accident ( fortunately both drivers would
be okay) and it took a while to clear the scene.

When we did go green
again I settled in behind the two in front who were squabbling for
position before moving ahead of a slowing TVR just before the pit window
opened. I dived into the pits to hand over to Mike and he was on his way
still in second place. The Saleen stopped ten minutes later and Mike was
on his tail as he exited the pits and passed him before Quarry.

The gap between the two
fluctuated but the victory was ours. Only the second of the year but all
the same a good win! 6 points behind now with 5 to go........
